Carpenters
What is a Carpenter?

Carpenters are required to have a working knowledge of many things, from building
of small residential homes, to the construction of the most complex industrial settings. Their tools are hammers, saws, easers, digital
and electronic devices and organizational and communication skills. They saw wood, form concrete, build scaffolds, weld metals, mold
plastics, and layout the tallest buildings. Carpenters work under conditions that are as varied as the skills they possess.

How do I Prepare for the Trade?

o Good personal and social habits
o Courses in math, science and communication skills
o Develop reasoning and problem solving skills |
How do I Qualify?
| |
o 18 years of age
o Possess a high school diploma or GED
o Be physically able to perform the work of the trade
o Desire to be the best
o Willingness to take drug/alcohol test
o Possess a valid drivers license |
What are the program specifics?
| |
o Length of program - 4 years
o Four weeks of classroom instruction each year
o 8,000 hours on the job training
o Starting wage - 60% of Journeyperson wage plus full fringe benefits
o Some areas have the school to school program that allows high school graduates to start as an apprentice immediately
upon graduation |
